How to get to Scalea

Scalea has its own station on the Tyrrhenian coastal line, so you do not need a car to arrive. From Naples it is a direct train of about two and a half hours from roughly 15 €. From Lamezia airport it is about an hour and a half door to door for around 11 €.

Through Naples

Naples takes flights from most of Europe and is the simpler airport of the two. From Napoli Centrale a direct regional train runs to Scalea-Santa Domenica Talao: nine direct services a day, first around 04:50, last around 22:51, with fifteen connections in total if you count the ones with a change.

The regional takes about two hours and thirty-six minutes and starts from roughly 15 €. Intercity and fast services cover the same route in one hour fifty-four to two hours fifteen for more money. Book the regional the day before and you will pay near the bottom of that range; buy on the platform in August and you will not.

Through Lamezia Terme airport

Lamezia is the closest airport, about 108 km away, and the connection is better than people expect. The Lamezia Airlink shuttle links the terminal to Lamezia Terme Centrale station for 1.80 €. From there the train to Scalea takes about one hour and seven minutes and starts from around 9 €.

That is roughly 11 € and a little over an hour and a half in total. Cheaper and faster than Naples — the catch is that Lamezia has fewer flights, so the plane ticket is often the more expensive half.

By car

Autostrada A2 down the Tyrrhenian side, then the SS18 coastal road. From Naples it is around four hours of driving; from Lamezia about an hour and a half.

The number that decides the cost is fuel: on 7 September 2026 the national average for self-service petrol was 2.054 € a litre, and 2.140 € on the motorway. Fill up before you join the A2. Parking at the apartment is free and on the premises, which in August in a seaside town is worth more than it sounds.

The last kilometre

The station is called Scalea-Santa Domenica Talao and sits about 2 km from us. Send us your train number and someone will meet you there — it is a two-minute drive and it saves you dragging a suitcase in the heat.

Once you are here a car stops being necessary. The sea, the supermarkets, the bars and the restaurants are all a few minutes on foot. A car earns its keep only if you plan to drive the Riviera dei Cedri, the mountain villages and the Pollino.
